Our Special Programs
Yinnar Primary School offers a number of programs that fall outside of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards curriculum document. These include the following:
This sequential program commences with a fun evening at the school for Prep children. At the same evening the grade 1 and 2 children remain at school for an overnight sleepover. By grades 3 and 4 the children are involved in three day camps at reasonably local camps (within 2 hours drive), where they participate in a range of adventure activities and team building problem solving tasks. At the grade 5 and 6 level the children go to five day camps, currently held on a rotational basis at Sovereign Hill (for the study of Gold) and Canberra for the study of Government and Citizenship).
This takes place at lunchtimes during the week and over a short two year period has grown significantly in both interest and participation. We have, during both years, been successful in winning regional team events and this has led to our children participating in the state championships in Melbourne.
We don’t have a specified music teacher at the school. However we have extremely competent professional music teachers who come into the school to take a number of children for one on one Piano and Singing lessons. We are hopeful of including the learning of Guitar as another option in the very near future.
Over the past few years we have had professional dance companies visit our school to run weekly sessions in dance for all children Prep- 6. These generally take place each week over the period of one term.
This is held every second year. In the ‘fallow’ years we try to hold another interesting event, such as a visiting clown or a school bush dance.
The School conducts excursions on a regular basis, generally one per term.
Short walking excursions around Yinnar do not require a parental consent form, but excursions further afield do. No child can take part without this form being signed.
Religious Instruction is an option available at the school on a regular basis. Parents are asked to complete the section on the “Confidential Student Information” form, under Family Details regarding this at the beginning of the year.
We encourage all children to attend Religious Instruction classes so that they may become better informed adults and make choices based on knowledge not ignorance of these issues.
